Zheng Qinwen Withdraws from US Open After Elbow Surgery

Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen has announced her withdrawal from the US Open, just two days after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on her right elbow. The Chinese tennis player, ranked number six in the world, was forced to make this decision due to persistent pain that has plagued her for several months. Zheng, 22 years old and right-handed, shared the news through her social media on Saturday, explaining that despite trying various treatments, the discomfort never completely disappeared. This situation led her to make the difficult decision to undergo surgery. Zheng Qinwen’s withdrawal is not a surprise, given that the tennis player anticipates a recovery period that could last for several months. The US Open will begin on August 24. Instead, France’s Leolia Jeanjean will take her place in the tournament.
