US Open Surprise: Madison Keys Falls to Renata Zarazúa
In a day full of surprises at the US Open, American tennis player Madison Keys, seeded number 6, was eliminated in the first round by Mexican Renata Zarazúa, ranked 82nd in the world. The final score was 6-7 (10), 7-6 (3) and 7-5, in a match that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats. Zarazúa made history by becoming the first Mexican player to defeat a seeded player within the top ten in the world in a Grand Slam tournament since Angélica Gavaldón, who achieved the feat at the 1995 Australian Open. The last time an American tennis player, seeded in the top ten, fell in the first round of the US Open was in 2003, when Chanda Rubin was defeated by Maria Vento-Kabchi. This has only happened once in the last 30 years at the New York tournament. Keys committed a total of 89 unforced errors and accumulated 14 double faults during the match.Other highlighted results in the women’s category
