Wang Ziying Crowned at Wimbledon: First Wheelchair Grand Slam

Chinese tennis player Wang Ziying won her first Grand Slam title in the women’s wheelchair singles category by defeating Japan’s Yui Kamiji, the top seed, with a score of 6-3, 6-3 at Wimbledon.

Wang, who had previously faced Kamiji on nine occasions, losing in eight of them, achieved a significant victory. Kamiji, with 10 major singles titles, was seeking to complete a career Grand Slam with his first Wimbledon championship.

In a contested match, Wang secured the first set on his fifth set point, after a lengthy game that went to deuce nine times. The victory was achieved on the first match point, when Kamiji made an error with her backhand.

De la Puente and Spaargaren Take the Men’s Doubles Title

In the men’s wheelchair doubles final, Martin De la Puente of Spain and Ruben Spaargaren of the Netherlands, seeded second, won their first Wimbledon title by defeating the British pair, Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid, the top seeds, with a score of 7-6 (1), 7-5.

Hewett and Reid, with six Wimbledon doubles titles, including the last two, were unable to maintain their winning streak.
