Tennis legend Venus Williams continues to make headlines at the 2025 US Open. Despite her singles loss to Karolina Muchova, the American tennis player has received a wildcard entry to participate in the women’s doubles tournament. After an exciting three-set match against Muchova, 45-year-old Williams was granted a wild card to team up with Leylah Fernandez in the doubles competition. On Monday night, Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam champion and former world number one, made her twenty-fifth appearance in the main draw of the US Open, the most in the Open era. This thrilled the fans at Arthur Ashe Stadium. In her return to professional tennis last month at the Citi Open, after a 16-month absence, Williams defeated Peyton Stearns, becoming the second oldest woman to win a singles match at the tournament level. Williams also participated in the Cincinnati Open and the US Open mixed doubles tournament last week alongside Reilly Opelka, losing in the first round. This is the first time Williams has competed in all three events (singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles) since Wimbledon 1998.

I am very proud of how I played against Muchova and I am satisfied with the progress I have made in a short time.

Williams, who has won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and three Olympic gold medals alongside her sister Serena, will team up with Fernandez, 22, for the first time. They will face the sixth-seeded pair, Lyudmyla Kichenok and Ellen Perez, in the first round. Other wild card recipients include Americans Hailey Baptiste and Whitney Osuigwe, and the team of Clervie Ngounoue and Iva Jovic.
