PARIS – Stefanos Tsitsipas has announced a significant change in his coaching team. The Greek tennis player has appointed Goran Ivanisevic as his new coach, with the aim of revitalizing his career after a series of disappointing results in the Grand Slams.
A New Direction for Tsitsipas
Tsitsipas, who reached the French Open final, suffered an unexpected defeat in the second round of Roland Garros against qualifier Matteo Gigante. This early elimination in Paris, the quickest for the 26-year-old player since 2018, has spurred the search for a change.
With only two victories in his last four Grand Slams, Tsitsipas has decided to count on the experience of Ivanisevic, who previously coached Novak Djokovic.
Ivanisevic played a key role in Djokovic’s winning of nine of his 24 Grand Slam titles before leaving his team in March 2024. He also had a brief collaboration with Elena Rybakina this season. The Croatian, who won Wimbledon in 2001 as a player, has also coached Marin Cilic, Tomas Berdych, and Milos Raonic. Tsitsipas, considered at one point as a future Grand Slam champion, will fall outside the top 20 for the first time since 2018. Wimbledon will start on June 30th.This exciting collaboration arrives just in time for the 2025 grass season, as the Greek star seeks to elevate his performance on one of the most prestigious surfaces in the sport.
