Tara Moore Receives Four-Year Doping Suspension

British tennis player Tara Moore has been suspended for four years following a court decision that supports the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) regarding the use of performance-enhancing substances. Moore tested positive for the anabolic steroids boldenone and nandrolone in April 2022. However, she was initially cleared in December 2023, after an independent tribunal determined that the result was caused by the ingestion of contaminated meat during a competition in Colombia. The ITIA appealed that decision, focusing its objection on the part of the findings related to nandrolone. The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in favor of the ITIA, indicating that the majority of its panel considered that Moore could not demonstrate that the sample was consistent with the ingestion of contaminated meat.

For the ITIA, each case is considered according to the individual facts and circumstances. Our criteria for appealing a first instance decision is high, and the decision is not taken lightly. In this case, our independent scientific advice was that the player did not adequately explain the high level of nandrolone present in her sample. Today’s decision is consistent with this position.

Currently, Moore, 32, is ranked number 864 in singles and 187 in doubles. She has mainly participated in lower-level WTA Tour events since returning from her provisional suspension following the positive result. Tuesday’s ruling indicated that time will be credited to her suspension.
