The world number two, Iga Swiatek, advanced to the US Open quarterfinals for the second consecutive year, after defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova with a score of 6-3, 6-1. Swiatek demonstrated her resilience by coming back from 3-1 in the first set, adding another notable victory after her recent comeback against Anna Kalinskaya.

At first, I felt like she was playing very fast. I wanted to find my rhythm, but then I felt like I was in my bubble and in my zone.

With this victory, Swiatek joins Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals of all four Grand Slams this year, a feat not seen since 2005, when Lindsey Davenport and Maria Sharapova achieved it. In her next challenge, Swiatek will face Amanda Anisimova, whom she defeated in the Wimbledon final. Anisimova secured her place in the quarterfinals after defeating Beatriz Haddad Maia with a score of 6-0, 6-3. The presence of Anisimova at this stage means that the eight female quarterfinalists in this tournament are former finalists of major tournaments, a fact that has only happened twice before in the Open era. Swiatek, seeking her second US Open title and seventh in a Grand Slam, continues to demonstrate her dominance in women’s tennis. Additionally, Naomi Osaka achieved a dominant victory over Coco Gauff with a score of 6-3, 6-2 in an anticipated match at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Osaka advanced to the quarterfinals of a major for the first time since 2021 and will face Karolina Muchova for a place in the semifinals.
