Iga Swiatek Conquers Wimbledon 2025: Absolute Dominance on Grass
Just weeks after her triumph at Roland Garros, Iga Swiatek approached the grass season with a renewed focus. Following a surprising victory at the All England Club, Swiatek demonstrated her adaptability and solidified her position in the elite of world tennis. The Polish tennis player, who had lost in the semifinals of Roland Garros, made the most of the additional time on the court to perfect her grass game.
This year, Swiatek surprised everyone by becoming the Wimbledon 2025 champion, after an impressive performance and a resounding 6-0, 6-0 victory over Amanda Anisimova in the final.
“Honestly, I didn’t even dream about this because for me it was too far away,” Swiatek declared after securing the title.

With this triumph, Swiatek, 24 years old, has six Grand Slam titles and becomes the eighth woman, and the only active WTA player, to win major titles on all three surfaces. In addition, she is the youngest to achieve this since Martina Hingis in 2003.Swiatek ha ganado todas sus finales de Grand Slam.Ironically, Swiatek’s highlight as a junior was at Wimbledon, where she won the girls’ singles title in 2018. The Wimbledon website highlighted that “clay remains her preferred surface”.
Swiatek found professional success on clay, winning her first WTA title on this surface and, as a 19-year-old unseeded player, surprised the tennis world by winning the 2020 French Open title.
After winning her fifth major trophy, and fourth at Roland Garros, Swiatek struggled, by her own standards. After a month-long suspension in November for testing positive for a banned substance, all eyes were on her at the 2025 French Open to see if she could turn things around. When she didn’t, her ranking fell to number 8.
Grass is the shortest part of the annual tennis calendar, and for the previous three years, Swiatek won the French Open, just about three weeks before the start of Wimbledon. This left very little time to prepare for the grass.
Swiatek returned to competition just under three weeks later in Bad Homburg. She reached her first grass court final with victories over Victoria Azarenka and Jasmine Paolini. She ultimately lost to Jessica Pegula for the title, but arrived at the All England Club with momentum on her side and, as she told reporters the next day, “a lot of confidence”.
Swiatek seemed to be having fun. She went viral for her pasta and strawberries and for her fondness for Wimbledon towels. She was seen throughout the tournament hoarding as many as she could after the matches, even putting her finger to her lips at the camera as if to keep the secret when she put one in her bag after her quarter-final victory.
On Saturday, during the final, she had her most dominant performance yet. Swiatek broke Anisimova in the first game, and there were no doubts for the rest of the way. She won the first set in 25 minutes and held Anisimova to only nine points. It was only the third women’s major final, and the second in the Open era, that featured a 6-0, 6-0 score. It had only previously happened at Wimbledon in 1911.
Iga Swiatek on her incredible Wimbledon win: “I was really competing throughout the whole two weeks. No matter what happened before the season, I just trusted the process and the things that my coach wanted me to do on grass. So it was all pretty simple what I wanted to do on the court. I think I was serving great and I just leaned on that. Had a lot of confidence on every match and, and this happened. So it’s all pretty surreal and crazy. I can’t explain that, but I’m super happy and I’ll enjoy the next days for sure.” pic.twitter.com/mXyq2dK8tW

Her 35 total games lost during the tournament were the fewest by any female champion at Wimbledon since Martina Navratilova in 1990.
After an emotional hug with Anisimova at the end of the match, Swiatek ran towards her box to celebrate with her team. Despite the score and the uneven contest, Swiatek seemed incredulous.
With the Wimbledon trophy, Swiatek is now only one major title away from Venus Williams, who has the most among active players on the WTA circuit. She will now return to the number 3 position in the most recent ranking.
She may not have had much influence at Wimbledon before, but Swiatek found a way to win perhaps her most unlikely title, at perhaps the most unlikely moment of her young career. She still wouldn’t call herself a grass court specialist on Saturday and admitted she didn’t know what to expect going into the final.
“Somehow I just wanted to enjoy the moment because with my previous results [at Wimbledon], I wasn’t sure if I would have another chance,” Swiatek told Fernandez. “I still felt like an underdog and I really wanted to soak up every minute of being on Centre Court and appreciate what I already did in this tournament, but on the other hand, go for more and be brave.”Iga Swiatek es la octava mujer en ganar un título importante en las tres superficies, y la única mujer activa que ha logrado la hazaña.She may not have been on the radar at the tournament, and even a little unsure of herself, but that won’t happen again. Nor will she be discounted in any tournament in the near future. Throughout the two weeks, she left little doubt about her ability and her willingness to adapt and grow as a player, regardless of the surface. In doing so, she solidified her status as an all-surface player and regained her status among the best in the game. Swiatek is now once again at the top of the tennis world.
Just over five weeks ago, Swiatek left Roland Garros disappointed and dejected. She hadn’t won the title. Questions about her future and her recent inability to win titles swirled.
But on Saturday, while on Centre Court with the admiring eyes of more than 14,000 fans and Catherine, the Princess of Wales, upon her, she wondered if it was one of the best things that could have happened to her career. What comes next for Swiatek, nobody knows, but on Saturday, everything seemed right for her.
“I don’t really care what’s going to happen,” Swiatek said about the rest of the season. “It’s difficult to compare [this title] to the other Grand Slams, but yes, I feel like I’m going to enjoy it and enjoy the way I felt on the court during the last few weeks. There were a lot of people, especially at home, [who] somehow doubted me and didn’t make my job easy, and I mean, the expectations and everything. So I hope to show everyone that they should leave me alone, let me do my job, let me focus on myself, and I will have great performances like I did today.”
