The Wimbledon championship propelled Iga Swiatek to number 3 in the WTA ranking this Monday. For her part, Amanda Anisimova, after finishing as runner-up, managed to enter the top 10 for the first time, placing herself in the number 7 position. A year ago, Anisimova was ranked 189th and could not access the tournament directly at the All England Club, nor even through the qualifying rounds. However, this year, Anisimova, already seeded at Wimbledon, reached her first Grand Slam final, after defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals, before losing to Swiatek with a score of 6-0, 6-0.

I look at it and say, ‘Oh, wow.’ At first it’s like a shock, and I can’t really process it. Then I think, ‘Oh, yeah, I’ve played really well so far this year,’ so it kind of makes sense. I feel like I see it from both sides.

Anisimova rose from number 12. “It’s something super special and a surreal feeling to be in the top 10,” she said. “If someone had told me last year that I would be in the top 10 now, I don’t know, I would have been very surprised considering where I was last summer.” Swiatek, who held the number 1 spot for much of the last three seasons, dropped to number 8 last month, after a year without reaching a final. Her participation in the final of a grass court tournament before Wimbledon propelled her to number 4, and now she has climbed one more position after obtaining her sixth major trophy. Sabalenka remained at the top of the women’s ranking, followed by Coco Gauff, Roland Garros champion, who was eliminated in the first round of Wimbledon. Laura Siegemund experienced the biggest improvement, climbing 50 places, from 104 to 54, after reaching the quarterfinals. The biggest drop was suffered by Barbora Krejcikova, Wimbledon 2024 champion, who fell 62 positions, from 16th to 78th, after being eliminated in the third round. Jannik Sinner held on to the number 1 spot in the ATP after his first Wimbledon title and the fourth in a Grand Slam tournament. Carlos Alcaraz, the two-time defending champion who lost in Sunday’s final, retained his number 2 position. Taylor Fritz, a semifinalist, rose from number 5 to 4, swapping positions with Jack Draper. Flavio Cobolli, after his debut in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam, which led him to enter the top 20 for the first time, moving from 24th to 19th. Ben Shelton moved up one spot to number 9, and Andrey Rublev climbed four spots to number 10.
