Elina Svitolina Ends Her Tennis Season Early
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina, who reached number 3 in the world, has announced that she will end her tennis season early. The decision is due to the player feeling that she is not in the “right emotional space” to compete. Svitolina, currently ranked 13th, shared the news via a social media post, followed by an official statement.In her message, Svitolina expressed that she doesn’t feel ready to play and needs time to rest and recharge. The tennis player emphasized her desire to return to the court with the best version of herself, fighting with everything she has for her fans, for the sport, and for herself.The 2025 season for Svitolina has been outstanding, with a record of 35-14 and a title at the WTA 250 clay tournament in Rouen, France, in April. Furthermore, she reached the quarterfinals at the Australian and French Opens. However, after reaching the quarterfinals in Montreal, Svitolina suffered defeats in Cincinnati and in the first round of the US Open. Following her defeat in Montreal against Naomi Osaka, Svitolina reported having received online abuse from frustrated gamblers. Last week, Svitolina led Ukraine to the Billie Jean King Cup semi-finals in China, where they fell to Italy. Svitolina, 31, is married to French tennis player Gael Monfils since 2021 and they have a daughter, Skai, born in 2022.
