Spain Returns to the Davis Cup Final After Defeating Germany
BOLOGNA, Italy – Spain secured their place in the Davis Cup final thanks to the outstanding performance of the doubles pair formed by Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez. In an exciting match, they defeated the German duo composed of Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, thus sealing the overall victory of 2-1 in the semifinal.
Alexander Zverev kept Germany’s hopes alive by defeating Jaume Munar with a score of 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5). Previously, Pablo Carreño Busta had given Spain the first point by defeating Jan-Lennard Struff. Carreño Busta showed his composure by saving five consecutive set points in the tiebreak, securing the victory with a 6-4, 7-6 (6).
Granollers and Martínez surprised Pütz and Krawietz, inflicting only their second defeat on them in the Davis Cup.
The Spanish team, which did not have the presence of Carlos Alcaraz due to an injury, returns to the final for the first time in six years.
In the final, Spain will face Italy, the two-time defending champion, who defeated Belgium on Friday.
