In an exciting day of the Davis Cup, Spain achieved a crucial victory over the Czech Republic, securing their place in the semifinals with a score of 2-1.

Granollers and Martínez, Heroes of Spain

The duo formed by Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez Portero won the decisive doubles match, defeating Tomas Machac and Jakub Mensik. This triumph was even more significant considering the absence of Carlos Alcaraz, who was forced to withdraw from the Spanish team due to an injury. The Spanish duo proved their worth on the court, sealing their place in the semifinals with a score of 7-6 (8), 7-6 (8) at the SuperTennis Arena.

For his part, 20-year-old Jakub Mensik stood out by connecting 20 aces, which allowed him to defeat Pablo Carreño Busta with a score of 7-5, 6-4, giving the Czech team the initial advantage. However, Jaume Munar responded for Spain, securing his first Davis Cup singles victory by defeating Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 6-4.

“I had a lot of confidence in my tennis. It doesn’t matter who is in front of me. I had a lot of confidence in myself and that’s the main thing,” commented Munar after his victory. Spain will face Germany in the semi-finals, a team that defeated Argentina with the same score of 2-1.

Germany Advances in an Emotion-Filled Match

In the match between Germany and Argentina, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz secured a doubles victory, overcoming Andrés Molteni and Horacio Zeballos in a tight third-set tiebreaker. The match concluded with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10), with both teams squandering match points. Tomas Martin Etcheverry put Argentina in the lead after a match where he connected 23 aces, defeating Jan-Lennard Struff with a score of 7-6 (3), 7-6 (7). However, Alexander Zverev, number 3 in the world, tied the series for Germany by defeating Francisco Cerundolo 6-4, 7-6 (3). The Davis Cup Finals in Bologna celebrates its sixth edition in this renewed format, where the champion will be defined in a neutral venue.
