Jannik Sinner Advances to Wimbledon Semifinals Despite Injury
Jannik Sinner demonstrated remarkable resilience by overcoming American Ben Shelton in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. Despite playing with a right elbow injury, Sinner exhibited a formidable serve and his characteristic forehand to secure the victory with scores of 7-6 (2), 6-4, 6-4. The Italian tennis player, currently number one in the world, wore a white sleeve on his right arm with visible bandages, the result of a fall suffered in his fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov. Prior to the match against Shelton, Sinner underwent an MRI and, although he initially canceled a practice session, he did some short training sessions. In the first set, Sinner dominated, winning 27 of his 29 service points and accumulating 15 winners with only one unforced error. Shelton, for his part, acknowledged the difficulty of facing a rival in top form. The turning point came in the tiebreak, where Sinner took advantage of a double fault and Shelton’s errors to take the lead. In the second set, Shelton had his only break opportunities, but Sinner responded with a winning shot and a powerful serve. When you’re in a match with a lot of tension, you try not to think about it. It has improved a lot from yesterday to today.
