Sinner Advances to Wimbledon Quarterfinals After Dimitrov’s Retirement Due to Injury

The world’s number one tennis player, Jannik Sinner, secured his place in the Wimbledon quarterfinals this Monday, despite suffering a fall and losing the first two sets of the match. The victory came after the retirement of his opponent, Grigor Dimitrov, due to a pectoral muscle injury. Sinner, who hadn’t conceded a single set in the tournament until that moment, found himself at a disadvantage against Dimitrov, who prevailed with scores of 6-3 and 7-5. However, in the third set, with the score tied at 2-2, Dimitrov was forced to abandon the match.

I don’t know what to say. He’s an incredible player, I think we all saw it today. I don’t take it as a victory at all.

This represents the fifth consecutive Grand Slam tournament in which Dimitrov fails to complete a match, marking the longest streak of this kind in the Open era. Previously, Dimitrov withdrew at the Australian Open in January and at the French Open in May, in addition to Wimbledon and the US Open last year.

In total, this was the tenth time that Dimitrov has withdrawn from a major tournament due to injury.

He has had very bad luck in the past. It is very unfortunate for us to witness it.
