US Davis Cup Team Injury Withdrawals
Two important figures in American tennis, Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul, have withdrawn from the upcoming Davis Cup matches due to injuries. Given this situation, the United States team has announced three substitutions for next week’s matches.
The selected replacements are Reilly Opelka, Rajeev Ram, and Austin Krajicek, who will join Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe for the second-round matches against the Czech Republic, scheduled for September 12 and 13 in Delray Beach, Florida.
Ben Shelton, currently ranked sixth, was forced to retire from his third-round match at the US Open due to discomfort in his left shoulder. Meanwhile, Tommy Paul, ranked 14th, was eliminated in the same round after a five-set match and appeared to be dealing with an abdominal injury.
Opelka, Ram, and Krajicek are preparing to take on this challenge. Ram and Krajicek have reached the top of the doubles ranking.
The event format includes two singles matches on the first day, followed by a doubles match and, potentially, two additional singles matches on the second day. The team that achieves three victories will advance to the Davis Cup Finals, which will be held from November 18 to 23 in Bologna, Italy.
