Emma Raducanu withdraws from the Miami Open due to illness.
The 23-year-old British tennis player, number one in her country, had received a direct pass to the second round of the tournament, which begins on Tuesday.
Raducanu is still recovering from the post-viral symptoms she contracted in the Middle East last month.
The 2021 US Open champion competed in Indian Wells earlier this month, where she suffered a 6-1, 6-1 defeat to Amanda Anisimova in the third round.
After that 52-minute defeat, Raducanu admitted that she couldn’t muster the strength to compete with the two-time Grand Slam finalist.
Repeatedly, he refused to pursue short shots and struggled to put pressure on his opponent with his service return.
Raducanu broke ties with her last coach, Francisco Roig, in January and has been working on a temporary basis with Mark Petchey in an attempt to regain her best form.
Seeded at number 24, she could have faced her compatriot Sonay Kartal, who starts against American Peyton Stearns, in the round of 64 in Miami.
