Emma Raducanu Suffers Another Defeat Due to Physical Problems in Ningbo

British tennis player Emma Raducanu again experienced physical difficulties, resulting in her elimination in the first round of the Ningbo Open on Tuesday. Raducanu, number 1 of the United Kingdom, returned to the court a week after retiring from her first match in Wuhan due to dizziness in hot and humid conditions. Although it initially seemed to be better, according to a social media post from a doctor’s office, his performance declined after winning the first set against China’s Zhu Lin, ultimately losing with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Although the temperatures were lower than the previous week, Raducanu showed signs of fatigue at the beginning of the second set and requested medical assistance after seven games. The situation worsened in the decisive set, where the 2021 US Open champion required medical attention again, this time for problems in the lumbar area, and had to finish the match with difficulties.
Emma Raducanu's fitness struggles have come back to haunt her this month.
Raducanu did not have her coach Francisco Roig, who took a week off in Barcelona, and was accompanied on the court by her training partner Alexis Canter and the physical trainer Daniel Pohl. Canter offered constant support while Raducanu managed to stay ahead during the first set, despite showing frustration with her game and losing her serve twice. The concern increased in the second set, when the 22-year-old tennis player quickly found herself at a 2-0 disadvantage, moving slowly and being surpassed by Zhu. Raducanu managed to stay in the set, tying 2-2 and then 4-4 after consulting the doctor, where they took her blood pressure, but she made a forehand error on the set point in the tenth game. After a short break in the locker room, the situation did not improve, and Raducanu’s back problems, which have been recurrent during the season, reappeared. The tennis player repeatedly doubled over at the start of the decisive set and requested a medical timeout after three games. Raducanu decided not to retire again, but could barely move, and the match came to an end quickly.
