Raducanu criticizes Australian Open schedule: "Difficult"
British tennis player Emma Raducanu, seeded number 28, has expressed her dissatisfaction with the scheduling of the Australian Open, after being forced to prepare against the clock for the tournament. Raducanu, who arrived in Melbourne on Friday after reaching the quarterfinals at the Hobart International, will begin her participation on Sunday against Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew. In addition to being scheduled for the opening day, she has been assigned the second shift of the night session at Margaret Court Arena, after a men’s match that will start at 7 p.m. local time, which could result in a very late start. Raducanu was scheduled to have her first training session at 9 p.m. on Saturday, and she commented: “It’s very difficult. You’d like to have more time in the environment, more time practicing, but I guess they gave me the schedule so I could try to turn it around and make the most of what’s ahead.”

I think it’s easy to get discouraged and complain, but it’s not going to help. So I’m just trying to focus and turn it around for tomorrow.

The tennis player also added: “It’s very difficult to schedule women’s matches after a possible five-set match. For me, it doesn’t really make much sense.” Raducanu also explained that this situation is new for her, as she doesn’t usually play so late, and that she will need to learn to adapt. This situation is complicated, even if Raducanu were to arrive at the season in top form, but the 23-year-old tennis player has dealt with physical problems during the preseason, with a foot injury that severely limited her time on the court. Raducanu indicated that the foot injury has improved, and that she is happy with the progress made. She also mentioned that, although she didn’t have the desired preseason, she is working on the right things and hopes that everything will come together at some point. Regarding her rival, Sawangkaew, Raducanu considers her a dangerous opponent, despite her ranking of 195 and her Grand Slam debut. The British tennis player commented: “I think it’s a complicated match because, playing many matches, even at ITF level, and getting many victories, does a lot. I think she’s a very dangerous opponent, a very dangerous situation to be in. You don’t know much about her, so there’s also that element of surprise.”
