Raducanu Beats Kostyuk at DC Open, While Musetti and Rune Suffer

In an emotional day at the DC Open, Emma Raducanu achieved a significant victory by defeating Marta Kostyuk, extending Kostyuk’s losing streak to six consecutive matches. On the other hand, Lorenzo Musetti and Holger Rune experienced setbacks in the tournament.

Raducanu, ranked 46th in the world and winner of the US Open in 2021, defeated Kostyuk with scores of 7-6 (4) and 6-4. This defeat marks the fifth consecutive time that Kostyuk is eliminated in the first round of a tournament, and the situation has worsened since her defeat in the fourth round in Rome.

The next challenge for Raducanu will be to face the winner of the match between Naomi Osaka and Yulia Putintseva.

In the men’s competition, Cameron Norrie achieved a victory over the second seed, Lorenzo Musetti, with a score of 3-6, 6-2, and 6-3. Musetti, who withdrew from the French Open semifinals due to an injury, has not managed to win a match since then.

Holger Rune, who was the third seed, withdrew from the tournament due to a back injury.

Venus Williams was scheduled to play her first singles match in over a year against Peyton Stearns.
