Pohankova Conquers Wimbledon: Slovak Wins Junior Tennis Title

WIMBLEDON, England – Slovakian tennis player Mia Pohankova was crowned Wimbledon junior champion on Saturday, after defeating American Julieta Pareja, sixth seed, with a score of 6-3 and 6-1. Pohankova, 16, managed to break her opponent’s serve six times on Court No. 1, thus securing her first Grand Slam title at the junior level. Pohankova’s victory marks a milestone, as she is the second consecutive Slovakian tennis player to obtain this prestigious title, following in the footsteps of Renata Jamrichova, who triumphed the previous year.

It’s an incredible moment because Renata won last year and two Slovak girls won two years in a row. It’s something incredible for Slovak tennis.

In the men’s final, which will be played on Sunday, Bulgarian Ivan Ivanov, sixth seed, will face American Ronit Karki, who accessed the tournament from the qualifying phase.
