Sinner Finds New Partner for US Open Mixed Doubles

Jannik Sinner will compete in the US Open mixed doubles with a new partner, while Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz will face the number one seeded team in the first round.

The mixed doubles tournament, which has 16 teams, will begin on Tuesday and will award a prize of one million dollars to the winning team. The draw was held on Sunday.

Alcaraz and Raducanu, both former US Open singles champions, will face the team of Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper, who qualified as the number one seed due to their combined individual rankings.

Sinner, currently at the top of the ranking, will play alongside Katerina Siniakova, winner of ten women’s doubles Grand Slam titles. Originally, Sinner was going to partner with Emma Navarro, but the latter withdrew to participate in the women’s tournament in Monterrey, Mexico, the following week.

Other teams that joined the event on Sunday include Naomi Osaka and Gael Monfils, Karolina Muchova and Andrey Rublev, and Caty McNally and Lorenzo Musetti.

Musetti was scheduled to play with Jasmine Paolini, but the latter withdrew to play against Iga Swiatek in the Cincinnati final on Monday. Swiatek remains in the tournament, partnering with Casper Ruud.

Sinner and Alcaraz, who will face each other in the men’s final, will have little rest before their doubles matches in New York.

Sinner and Siniakova, who received one of the eight invitations, will face Alexander Zverev and Belinda Bencic in their first match.

The other first-round matchups are: Olga Danilovic and Novak Djokovic against Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev; Swiatek and Ruud (seed number 3) against Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe; Osaka and Monfils against McNally and Musetti; Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton against Amanda Anisimova and Holger Rune (seed number 4); Venus Williams and Reilly Opelka against Muchova and Rublev; and Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz (seed number 2) against Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.

Errani and Vavassori are the current US Open champions and the only traditional doubles team in the tournament.

Rounds one and two will be played on Tuesday starting at 11 a.m. The semi-finals and the final will be on Wednesday evening.
