Naomi Osaka and Patrick Mouratoglou End Their Collaboration
Tennis player Naomi Osaka and her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, have decided to end their professional relationship, after less than a year of working together. The news was confirmed by Osaka herself through her social media on Sunday.
In her post, Osaka expressed her gratitude to Mouratoglou, sharing a photo where they are seen together during a training session. “Merci Patrick,” wrote the tennis player, “It was a great experience to learn from you. I wish you all the best. You are one of the coolest people I have met and I am sure we will see each other.”
The news comes a few days after Osaka suffered a defeat at the DC Open, and just before her participation in the Toronto tournament. The US Open, the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, and where Osaka has won two titles, will begin on August 24 in New York.
Osaka hired Mouratoglou, who previously coached Serena Williams, after the departure of Wim Fissette, shortly after her elimination in the second round of last year’s US Open.
Currently, Osaka is ranked number 51 in the world and has a record of 21-11 this season. Her last notable appearance in a Grand Slam tournament was when she won the Australian Open in 2021.
