Andy Murray Expresses Disappointment at Novak Djokovic’s Results During His Coaching Period
The British tennis player Andy Murray has shared his feelings about his time as Novak Djokovic’s coach, revealing his “disappointment” with the results obtained during their collaboration. Murray joined Djokovic’s coaching team in November 2024, just three months after the 38-year-old Scot ended his playing career at the Paris Olympics. However, the partnership lasted only six months, participating together in the Australian Open and five other tournaments this year.Murray also added that this experience provided him with a valuable opportunity to explore his interest in coaching and learn. Djokovic managed to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open, surpassing Carlos Alcaraz, but suffered an injury to his left hamstring. Subsequently, the 24-time Grand Slam champion withdrew in a match against Alexander Zverev, being booed by the public. Upon his return, the Serbian tennis player suffered defeats in Qatar and Indian Wells. He reached the final of the Miami Open, but lost to the young Czech Jakub Mensik. Initially, Murray planned to coach Djokovic until Roland Garros, but the collaboration ended in May, after the clay court defeats in Monte Carlo and Madrid. Murray commented that, although the start was promising, Djokovic’s injury in Australia and the following months were difficult for both of them and the team. He highlighted that he learned a lot about training, got fully involved and built good relationships with Djokovic’s team.“I look back and I’m glad I did it. It was an incredible experience. It didn’t last long, but I gave it my all. I was disappointed. I probably didn’t get the results I would have liked for him.”
