Andy Murray Expresses Disappointment at Novak Djokovic’s Results During His Time as Coach

The British tennis player Andy Murray has shared his feelings regarding his time as Novak Djokovic’s coach, expressing his disappointment with the results obtained during their collaboration. Murray joined Djokovic’s coaching team in November 2024, just three months after the 38-year-old Scot ended his playing career at the Paris Olympics. However, the partnership lasted only six months, participating in the Australian Open and five other tournaments this year.

I look back and I’m glad I did it. It was an incredible experience I had. It didn’t last long, but I put everything into it. I was disappointed. I probably didn’t get the results I would have liked for it.

Murray also added:

It was a good opportunity because I felt that I wanted to train at some point and if I didn’t take it, I could look back and think that it would have been really interesting, I could have learned a lot, or potentially regret it.

Djokovic managed to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open, defeating Carlos Alcaraz, but suffered an injury to his left hamstring. Subsequently, the 24-time Grand Slam champion retired after one set against Alexander Zverev and was booed as he left the court. Upon his return, the 38-year-old Serbian suffered defeats in Qatar and Indian Wells. Then, he reached the final of the Miami Open, but lost to the Czech teenager Jakub Mensik. Originally, Murray planned to coach Djokovic until the French Open, but the partnership ended in May after the defeats in Monte Carlo and Madrid.

At first it was going well and what happened in Australia with the injury was unfortunate, but I saw him play ridiculous tennis in that tournament. After the injury, it was certainly a difficult few months for him, but I also think for the team and for all of us. I learned a lot about what it is to coach. I was totally involved, I made every effort to help and I made good relationships along the way with his team.
