Corentin Moutet Advances to the Mallorca Open Final
French tennis player Corentin Moutet secured his place in the Mallorca Open final after defeating Alex Michelsen, the third seed, with a score of 6-4 and 7-6(3). This victory marks his first appearance in an ATP final in over five years. Moutet will face Tallon Griekspoor in Saturday’s final, after the Dutchman secured a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the second seed. The unseeded tennis player, Moutet, who had only reached one ATP final in Doha in 2020, achieved two breaks in the first set and maintained a solid serve to take it with a 6-4. Moutet’s court craft kept his American opponent off balance, with his lefty angles and cuts disrupting Michelsen’s rhythm. The second set was more contested, with both players exchanging early breaks. Michelsen generated five break points at 4-3, but Moutet, 26, saved them all with a brave performance.
The American went ahead 6-5, but Moutet responded with a composed service game to force a tiebreak. Moutet went ahead 4-3 in the tiebreak and never looked back, sealing the match on his first opportunity and will now seek to win his first ATP title. Griekspoor, seeded fourth, secured a break in each set and held firm on serve to reach the final. Auger-Aliassime made some errors, but for the most part struggled to challenge Griekspoor’s serve, falling short at key moments.
