Medvedev and Cervara: End of an Era in Tennis
Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev has announced the separation from his long-time coach, Gilles Cervara, after a period marked by successes and challenges. The duo, who started working full-time in 2017, achieved significant milestones in Medvedev’s career, including the world number 1 ranking and the US Open title in 2021. The news comes after a complicated season for Medvedev, marked by on-court incidents and inconsistent performance. The tennis player, currently ranked number 13 in the world, was recently fined for his behavior during a match. “Thank you Gilles. Incredible 8-10 years together, 20 titles, number 1 in the world, but most importantly, many fun moments and memories that will stay with us forever,” wrote Medvedev on his social media.Daniil Medvedev’s Instagram post
The relationship between the two was not always easy, with Cervara leaving some matches due to Medvedev’s attitude on the court. However, they also achieved great successes together. Cervara was recognized as the ATP coach of the year in 2019, and Medvedev reached six Grand Slam finals under his tutelage.“Daniil. Our fantastic eight-season adventure together is coming to an end. As a symbolic nod to life, it is after this US Open tournament that we are ending our collaboration,” Cervara wrote on his social media.
