Petra Kvitova Announces Her Retirement from Tennis

Czech tennis player Petra Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon champion, has announced her plans to retire from professional tennis in the coming months. The news was communicated on Thursday via social media, one day after she was granted a wildcard to participate in Wimbledon.

“I am excited and looking forward to enjoying the beauty of playing at The Championships, Wimbledon, once again, a place that holds the most cherished memories of my career,” Kvitova stated.

The 35-year-old tennis player, who reached number 2 in the world ranking and contributed to the obtaining of six Fed Cup titles (now known as Billie Jean King Cup) for the Czech Republic, plans to end her career at the US Open in New York. Kvitova last participated in Wimbledon in 2023 and became a mother for the first time during the All England Club tournament last year. Her return to the WTA circuit came in February in Austin, Texas, after a 17-month absence, and she is currently ranked 572nd. Wimbledon will start on June 30.
