In a day marked by surprises at Wimbledon, where two American top 10 female seeds fell, Madison Keys, world number 6, advanced to the third round with a solid victory. Keys dominated Olga Danilovic with a score of 6-4 and 6-2 on Wednesday.
In the initial round, and in the midst of scorching heat, Keys defeated Elena-Gabriela Ruse with partial scores of 6-7 (4), 7-5 and 7-5, achieving her fifth victory in a Grand Slam this season after being tied at 5 in the third set, a record in the Open Era for a single year. On Wednesday, the player had an easier match, connecting 19 winning shots and closing the second-round match in 75 minutes.I knew I wanted to take the initiative as early as possible and try to keep it. I knew she could play really good tennis, so I just wanted to get ahead and then keep it.

The Keys’ record on grass at tour level is 52-18 (.742 winning percentage), the third highest among active women (with a minimum of 15 matches), after Venus Williams (98-26, .790 winning percentage) and Petra Kvitova (74-25, .747 winning percentage). In other individual women’s results on Wednesday, Sonay Kartal of Great Britain defeated Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria 6-2, 6-2 to reach the third round.I definitely felt a little more comfortable today. It’s the cloudy and rainy England we know and love, so that helped a lot… I felt a little more normal here today.
