McCartney Kessler Crowned Champion in Nottingham

American tennis player McCartney Kessler added a new title to her record this Sunday, after defeating Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska in the final of the Nottingham Open. The match, which was affected by rain, ended with scores of 6-4 and 7-5 in favor of Kessler. Kessler, who had already performed well on the grass court this month at the Queen’s tournament, demonstrated his dominance from the start of the match, securing the victory in one hour and 34 minutes.

I’m very excited to get another title. I’ve reached another final, another great week of tennis for me. I want to start by congratulating Dayana on her good week. She’s a very tough competitor. We’ve had three very competitive matches, so congratulations on her good week.

The 25-year-old American tennis player outperformed Yastremska on serve during the first set, winning 17 of the 25 points played with her serve, while the Ukrainian player achieved 19 points out of 35 with her first serve. The second set reached a 3-3 tie before Kessler overcame Yastremska’s tenacious resistance to secure the victory. Yastremska, who became the first Ukrainian player to reach a WTA grass court final in 17 years, played her second final of the year, but failed to obtain her first WTA title since 2019.
