Lleyton Hewitt and Son Cruz Fall in Quarterfinals at Sydney Challenger
The return of Lleyton Hewitt, two-time Grand Slam champion, from retirement to play doubles alongside his son Cruz in the New South Wales Challenger tournament, culminated this Thursday with a defeat in the quarterfinals.
Hewitt, who was world number 1 and won the US Open in 2001 and Wimbledon in 2002, retired from individual tennis in 2016. In the previous match, the father-son duo had achieved a convincing victory.
On Wednesday, Lleyton and Cruz Hewitt defeated Hayden Jones and Pavle Marinkov with a score of 6-1 and 6-0.
However, in the quarterfinals, the family team fell to Dane Sweeny and Calum Puttergill, with partials of 7-5 and 6-4.
Lleyton Hewitt currently serves as the captain of the Australian Davis Cup team. Cruz Hewitt is one of the three children Lleyton has with his wife, former actress Bec Hewitt.
