Sydney – Two-time Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt’s return to competition, alongside his son Cruz in the New South Wales Open Challenger tournament, culminated this Thursday with a defeat in the quarterfinals.
Hewitt, 44 years old and former world number 1, who retired from individual tennis in 2016, partnered with his 16-year-old son, Cruz. On Wednesday, they achieved a resounding victory over Hayden Jones and Pavle Marinkov, with a score of 6-1 and 6-0.
However, the father-son duo couldn’t advance in the tournament, falling to Dane Sweeny and Calum Puttergill in the quarterfinals, with a score of 7-5 and 6-4.
Lleyton Hewitt currently serves as the captain of the Australian Davis Cup team. Cruz Hewitt is one of the three children Hewitt has with his wife, former actress Bec Hewitt.
