SYDNEY – Two-time Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt’s return from retirement alongside his son Cruz in doubles at the New South Wales Open Challenger tournament culminated in a quarter-final defeat on Thursday.
Hewitt, 44 years old and former world number 1, who won the US Open in 2001 and Wimbledon in 2002, and retired from individual tennis in 2016, had joined his son Cruz, 16 years old, to defeat Hayden Jones and Pavle Marinkov with a score of 6-1, 6-0 on Wednesday.
However, the father-son team fell to Dane Sweeny and Calum Puttergill in the quarterfinals with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
Lleyton Hewitt currently serves as the captain of the Australian Davis Cup team. Cruz Hewitt is one of the three children that Hewitt has with his wife, former actress Bec Hewitt.
