SYDNEY – Lleyton Hewitt, a two-time Grand Slam singles champion, returned from retirement alongside his son Cruz in doubles at the New South Wales Open Challenger tournament, concluding this Thursday with a quarter-final defeat.
Hewitt, 44 years old and former world number 1, who won the US Open in 2001 and Wimbledon in 2002, retired from individual tennis in 2016.
The father-son duo achieved a victory on Wednesday by defeating Hayden Jones and Pavle Marinkov with a score of 6-1 and 6-0.
However, in the quarterfinals, the Hewitt team fell to Dane Sweeny and Calum Puttergill with scores of 7-5 and 6-4.
Lleyton Hewitt currently serves as the captain of the Australian Davis Cup team. Cruz Hewitt is one of the three children Lleyton has with his wife, former actress Bec Hewitt.
