Hewitt and his son fall in Challenger quarters after emotional comeback

SYDNEY – Lleyton Hewitt, a two-time Grand Slam singles champion, returned from retirement alongside his son Cruz in doubles at the New South Wales Open Challenger tournament, concluding Thursday with a quarterfinal loss.

Hewitt, 44 years old and former world number 1, who won the US Open in 2001 and Wimbledon in 2002, retired from individual tennis in 2016.

On Wednesday, Hewitt and his 16-year-old son Cruz secured a victory by defeating Hayden Jones and Pavle Marinkov with a score of 6-1, 6-0.

However, the father-son team fell in the quarterfinals to Dane Sweeny and Calum Puttergill, with a score of 7-5, 6-4.

Lleyton Hewitt currently serves as the captain of the Australian Davis Cup team. Cruz Hewitt is one of the three children that Hewitt has with his wife, former actress Bec Hewitt.
