New York – Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos won the men’s doubles championship at the US Open this Saturday, achieving their second Grand Slam title of the season after defeating Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski with a score of 3-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5.The team, seeded fifth, also took the French Open, also surpassing Salisbury and Skupski, giving this pair their first two major titles after losing in their first three finals.
They were close to defeat, as the British duo had three match points leading 5-4 in the third set. However, Granollers and Zeballos won the next eight points, finally achieving their only break of the match when Granollers dove to return Skupski’s serve to an open corner, giving them a 6-5 lead.With Carlos Alcaraz, Spanish compatriot, watching and cheering from the training room, Granollers then served to close out the match.Salisbury was seeking his fourth US Open men’s doubles title, having won three in a row with Rajeev Ram from 2021 to ’23. He and Skupski formed a partnership this year, and although they were close, they didn’t achieve victory. The US Open was their fifth final this year, and they lost them all.This year we are having results and I am very happy to do it with him because we fought hard.

The close final – Granollers and Zeballos had a 98-97 lead in total points – gave the winners their third Grand Slam victory over the number 6 pair, Salisbury and Skupski, this year. They also won a match in the Wimbledon quarter-finals.We will keep working hard, and these finals will come someday.
