Spain Qualifies for the Davis Cup Final After Defeating Germany
BOLOGNA, Italy – Spain secured their place in the Davis Cup final thanks to the outstanding performance of the doubles pair formed by Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez, who achieved a crucial victory over the German duo composed of Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz.
The match, which was defined with a score of 6-2, 3-6 and 6-3, sealed the Spanish victory with an overall score of 2-1 in the semi-final.
Alexander Zverev kept Germany’s hopes alive by defeating Jaume Munar with scores of 7-6 (2) and 7-6 (5). Previously, Pablo Carreño Busta had given Spain the first point, overcoming Jan-Lennard Struff in an exciting match.
Carreño Busta showed his composure by saving five consecutive set points in the tiebreak, securing the victory with a score of 6-4 and 7-6 (6).
The Granollers-Martínez pair surprised Pütz and Krawietz, inflicting only their second defeat on them in the Davis Cup.
The victory propels the Spanish team, which did not have Carlos Alcaraz present due to an injury, to its first final in six years.
Spain will face Italy, the defending champion, who previously defeated Belgium.
