BOLOGNA, Italy – Spain qualified for the Davis Cup final thanks to the victory of the doubles duo formed by Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez, who defeated the German pair composed of Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz, with a score of 6-2, 3-6 and 6-3 on Saturday, thus ensuring a 2-1 victory in the semi-final.

Alexander Zverev kept Germany’s hopes alive with a 7-6 (2) and 7-6 (5) victory over Jaume Munar, after Pablo Carreño Busta gave Spain a promising start against Jan-Lennard Struff. Carreño Busta managed to save five consecutive set points in the tiebreak before defeating the veteran German with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (6).

However, Granollers and Martínez surprised Pütz and Krawietz, inflicting only their second defeat in the Davis Cup.

This victory brought the Spanish team, which did not have Carlos Alcaraz, number 1 injured, back to the final for the first time in six years.

Spain will face Italy, the defending two-time champion, who defeated Belgium on Friday.
