Gauff, who holds the second position in the world ranking, had to overcome 14 double faults to secure her victory. This triumph comes after a previous match where she dealt with 23 double faults and a tiebreak in the third set against Danielle Collins.
The American tennis player, seeded, recovered from a set down and a break to advance to the round of 16. Before this tournament, Gauff had experienced two consecutive defeats, after winning the French Open, falling in her first matches in Berlin and Wimbledon.
In another notable match, McCartney Kessler, also from the United States, achieved a surprising victory over Mirra Andreeva, the fourth seed, with a score of 7-6 (5), 6-4.
