Coco Gauff seeks solution to her serving problems before the US Open

The tennis player Coco Gauff, aware of her problem with double faults, has taken drastic measures to improve her game. After registering the highest number of double faults on the circuit, Gauff has decided to make significant changes to her technical team. Gauff, who won her first Grand Slam title in 2023, stated that she needed a technical change and didn’t want to waste time continuing to make the same mistakes. The 21-year-old player is clear about her goals and is determined to reach the desired level. The American tennis player has hired Gavin MacMillan, a biomechanics coach who previously worked with Aryna Sabalenka to improve her serve.

“I know I needed to make a technical change and I don’t want to waste time doing things wrong,” Gauff said.

Sabalenka, who is now one of the best tennis players in the world thanks to the improvement in her serve, also shared her experience with MacMillan, highlighting the importance of confidence and dedication to the process.

“I literally tried everything, and nothing helped me fix my serve. It was the last step before saying: ‘OK, goodbye, tennis.’ I was so desperate that I didn’t hesitate in my decision,” said Sabalenka.

Gauff has accumulated 320 double faults this season, surpassing any other player by more than 100. Her average is 6.8 double faults per match, with performances where she has committed up to 23 in a single match. Gauff’s title defense at last year’s US Open ended with 19 double faults in the fourth round. Following this, she split with one of her coaches, Brad Gilbert, and added Matthew Daly to her team. Now, Daly is no longer part of the team. Gauff is focused on improving and is obsessed with the process. She believes that this improvement in her serve will be key to achieving her goals.
