Coco Gauff Advances in US Open After Emotional Battle

New York – Coco Gauff, visibly moved, struggled to maintain her composure and focus on her second-round match at the US Open this Thursday night. Despite the tears she was trying to hold back between points, the tennis player managed to overcome the challenges and secure her place in the next phase. The issues with her service, a constant in her recent performances, were once again a factor to consider. Despite having worked with a new coach to improve this aspect, Gauff demonstrated determination and skill to stay in the competition, defeating Donna Vekic with a score of 7-6 (5), 6-2 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Honestly, today was a difficult match for me. But I am happy with how I was able to handle it. It’s been a tough few weeks.

In the first set, Gauff, 21 years old and from Florida, committed seven double faults and lost four of her six service games, including moments when she was losing 5-4 and then 6-5. However, she managed to break her opponent’s serve on both occasions. Vekic requested a medical timeout to treat her right shoulder, but Gauff remained superior in the tiebreak. After the first set, Gauff retired to the locker room to cool down and regain focus. In the second set, she showed a notable improvement, winning all her service games and committing only one double fault.
