Taylor Fritz Advances to National Bank Open Semifinals
American tennis player Taylor Fritz achieved a notable victory over Andrey Rublev, the sixth seed, with scores of 6-3, 7-6 (4) at the National Bank Open. This triumph secures him a place in the semifinals of the tournament.
Fritz, who was the second seed, demonstrated his powerful serve by hitting 20 aces, including a crucial one to close out the match.
In the next phase, Fritz will face the winner of the match between Ben Shelton and Alex de Miñaur.
The other semifinal on Wednesday will pit Alexander Zverev, the top seed, against Karen Khachanov.
Fritz’s match started with great intensity, with three aces that allowed him to win the first game. He managed to break Rublev’s serve, securing the first eight points of the match.
The American tennis player, currently in fourth place in the ATP ranking, added two more aces to go 4-1 and then secured the set.
Seeking his eleventh ATP Tour victory, Fritz broke Rublev’s serve in the second set, with the score tied at 4-4. However, Rublev responded, bringing the score to 6-5 before Fritz forced the tiebreak.
