Cameron Norrie Advances at Roland Garros; Boulter and Kartal Say Goodbye
Paris – British tennis player Cameron Norrie secured his place in the third round of the French Open, while Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal were eliminated, marking the end of British participation in the women’s singles competition at Roland Garros.Norrie defeated Argentine Federico Gomez with scores of 7-6 (7), 6-2, 6-1 on Thursday, securing his place in the next phase, where he could face Jacob Fearnley in a British duel.
Boulter fell to Madison Keys with scores of 6-1, 6-3, and Kartal lost to Marie Bouzkova. These defeats add to the elimination of Emma Raducanu on Wednesday.
With Jack Draper and Fearnley still in competition, Great Britain is guaranteed to have at least one representative in the men’s singles competition, after Norrie defeated a visibly injured Gómez on a hot afternoon.Norrie, who had previously won an epic five-set match against Daniil Medvedev on Tuesday, faced Gómez on Court 13. The Argentinian tennis player had eliminated Aleksandar Kovacevic in the first round.
Norrie had to work hard in the first set against the Argentinian, taking the tiebreak 9-7. Gómez managed to save six set points before conceding. Norrie took the lead in the second set, taking advantage of Gómez’s frustration, who committed his seventh double fault, which led him to throw his racket against the ground.
The Brit broke Gómez’s serve again and took the second set 6-2. Norrie maintained his rhythm in the third set, breaking Gómez’s serve early, who was showing signs of physical discomfort. He seemed to be dealing with back and leg problems, and from there, Norrie sealed the victory. He will face Fearnley or Ugo Humbert on Saturday.

Boulter had overcome Carole Monnet in three sets (6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-1) on Tuesday, but Keys presented a tougher test.
A double fault from Boulter gave Keys a break opportunity in the fourth game, and Keys forced three break points in the sixth, as Boulter struggled to find her rhythm. Boulter managed to recover, but after a long exchange, she committed a double fault that gave Keys her second break, and from there, Keys won the first set 6-1.
Keys broke Boulter’s serve again at the start of the second set, with double faults hurting the Brit. Keys’ serve was relentless, keeping Boulter at bay. Boulter’s serve was unreliable in the fifth game, committing her eighth double fault. This gave Keys a second break, but Boulter reacted.
She got a break to go up 5-3, but Keys responded with her fifth break to win the third set 6-3. Keys will play against the winner of the match between Victoria Azarenka and Sofia Kenin.
