Leylah Fernandez Crowned Champion at the Japan Open
The tennis player Leylah Fernandez won the title of the Japan Open WTA this Sunday, after defeating the young promise Tereza Valentova.
Fernandez, who faced the 18-year-old qualifier, Valentova, managed to prevail with a score of 6-0, 5-7 and 6-3, thus adding his fifth title in his professional career.
The final, which marked Fernandez’s eighth appearance in a final in her career, began with absolute dominance by the Canadian, who closed the first set in just 29 minutes.
However, Valentova reacted in the second set, managing to level the match after breaking Fernandez’s serve in the twelfth game.
In the decisive set, Fernandez, currently ranked number 27 in the world, secured a crucial break in the fourth game. Despite the Czech player’s tenacious resistance, Fernandez managed to maintain her advantage and secure her second title of the season, following her victory at the WTA 500 D.C. Open in July.
