Leylah Fernandez Crowned Champion at the Japan Open

Tennis player Leylah Fernandez won the WTA Japan Open title this Sunday, after defeating young prospect Tereza Valentova in a close final.

Fernandez, who was facing her eighth final in her career, demonstrated her skill on the court. The 2021 US Open finalist dominated the first set with a resounding score of 6-0, showing an aggressive and effective game.

However, Valentova did not give up easily. The young Czech tennis player managed to recover in the second set, leveling the score by breaking Fernandez’s serve in the twelfth game, taking the match to a decisive third set.

In the final set, Fernandez, currently ranked 27th in the world, achieved a crucial break in the fourth game. Despite Valentova’s resistance, Fernandez remained calm and secured her victory, claiming her second title of the season, following her triumph at the WTA 500 D.C. Open in July.
