Leylah Fernandez Conquers the Japan Open
Tennis player Leylah Fernandez was crowned champion of the Japan Open WTA on Sunday, after defeating young Tereza Valentova with a score of 6-0, 5-7, 6-3. This triumph represents the fifth title of her professional career.
Fernandez, who was participating in her eighth final, demonstrated remarkable dominance in the first set, completing it in just 29 minutes. However, Valentova reacted in the second set, managing to equalize the match by breaking Fernandez’s serve in the twelfth game.
In the decisive set, Fernandez, currently ranked number 27 in the world, secured a crucial break in the fourth game. Subsequently, the Canadian player withstood the final challenge from the Czech tennis player, securing her second title of the season, after winning the WTA 500 D.C. Open in July.
