Fernández Conquers Japan Open: Fifth WTA Title in Her Career

OSAKA, Japan – Leylah Fernandez claimed victory at the WTA Japan Open, after a close match against the young Tereza Valentova.Fernández, who faced Valentova, coming from the qualifying phase and 18 years old, managed to win with a score of 6-0, 5-7 and 6-3 in the final of the tournament. This victory represents the fifth title of his professional career.In her eighth final, the tennis player, formerly US Open runner-up, dominated the first set in just 29 minutes. However, Valentova reacted in the second set, managing to tie the match after breaking Fernandez’s serve in the twelfth game.In the decisive set, Fernández, currently ranked 27th in the world, secured a crucial break in the fourth game. Subsequently, she resisted the Czech player’s comeback attempt, thus securing her second title of the season, after having won the WTA 500 D.C. Open in July.
