Errani and Vavassori Crowned at Roland Garros in Mixed Doubles

The Italian pair composed of Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori conquered the mixed doubles title at the French Open, Roland Garros, after defeating Americans Taylor Townsend and Evan King with a score of 6-4, 6-2.

The match was played on the Philippe-Chatrier court, where the Italians demonstrated solid and effective play to claim victory.

This victory represents the second mixed doubles Grand Slam title for Errani and Vavassori, who had already won the US Open last year, also against Townsend and her then-partner, Donald Young.

For Errani, this is her seventh doubles title in a Grand Slam, adding the five obtained in women’s doubles.

Congratulations to Evan and Taylor. It was very difficult to play against you. We had to study a lot. Thanks to Andrea, my best friend, it’s a lot of fun to play with you. You are an amazing person and it’s very special to be here with you.

Sara Errani

The match began with a close first set, where Errani and Vavassori managed to save two break points before achieving the decisive break that gave them the 4-3 lead, thanks to an error by Townsend.

In the second set, the Italians raised their level, achieving two service breaks that allowed them to dominate the match, culminating with a volley error by Townsend that secured the victory.

It’s incredible to be in another Grand Slam final together. We had an incredible run, the US Open was a dream come true, and we love playing together.

Andrea Vavassori

The American pair failed to find their best game, committing a total of 25 unforced errors, almost three times more than Errani and Vavassori’s nine.

Townsend and King will compete at Wimbledon.
