Jack Draper adds Jamie Delgado as head coach

British tennis player Jack Draper has announced a significant change in his coaching team. Draper, currently number one in the UK, will work with Jamie Delgado as his head coach. Delgado, known for his successful time as Andy Murray’s coach, will take on a key role in Draper’s development. This decision marks the end of a long collaboration between Draper and James Trotman, who will remain involved in the team, but Delgado will take the reins as head coach, accompanying Draper in most tournaments. Delgado, a former British Davis Cup player and holder of the record for consecutive Wimbledon appearances with 23, began working with Murray in 2016, initially alongside Ivan Lendl, during the most successful period of the Scot’s career. Delgado remained on Murray’s team until the end of the 2021 season and has since coached Denis Shapovalov and Grigor Dimitrov.

Both players praised the impact of 48-year-old Delgado, and, with Trotman wanting to spend more time at home, Draper moved to secure his services after his long association with Dimitrov ended last month.

The agreement will begin in the preseason, while Draper recovers from a left arm injury that has limited him to only one match since Wimbledon. Following his elimination in the second round at the All England Club, Draper was diagnosed with a bone contusion and an attempt to return at the US Open ended with his withdrawal before the second round, leading to an early end to his season. This ended the 23-year-old player’s hopes of appearing in the ATP Finals for the first time, with Draper falling to eighth place in the rankings during his absence. He is expected to return to the court at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown Grand Final in London in December.
