British tennis player Jack Draper, number one in his country, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Italian Open after defeating Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the round of 16 on Tuesday.
Draper, who overcame a complicated start in the first set, secured his place among the top eight with a solid performance, defeating Moutet with scores of 6-1, 6-4 and 6-3.
With this victory, Draper qualifies for the first time to the quarterfinals of the Italian Open, where he will face Carlos Alcaraz.
The 23-year-old player struggled to maintain consistency in the first set, but recovered to overcome his opponent.
I am proud of my effort today. I was a little bewildered at first. I had never played against someone like that.

The second set included a small incident after a video review, where Moutet requested the technology arguing that Draper hit the ball against the ground. However, the point was awarded to the Briton after it was shown that the hit was legal.
