Djokovic Advances to Semifinals in Shanghai after Defeating Bergs

In a day marked by high temperatures, Novak Djokovic achieved a solid victory in the Shanghai Masters, defeating Zizou Bergs with scores of 6-3 and 7-5. This triumph secures him a place in the semifinals of the tournament. Djokovic, known for his impressive career, will now face Valentin Vacherot, who surprisingly advanced from the qualifying phase and currently holds the number 204 ranking. The Serbian tennis player has had to deal with the difficult weather conditions in Shanghai, which have tested his physical endurance. In previous matches, Djokovic has experienced complicated moments, including episodes of vomiting and the need for medical attention due to exhaustion. Despite a small stumble when being broken while leading the second set with a score of 5-4, Djokovic managed to close the match on his third match point.

I should have closed the match at 5-4. The conditions are very challenging for all players, and I was just trying to stay on the court. I’m glad to overcome this obstacle.

This match represented the first encounter between Djokovic and Bergs. At the end of the match, Bergs expressed his admiration for Djokovic. In another notable result, Vacherot pulled off a major upset by defeating Holger Rune, the tenth seed, with a score of 2-6, 7-6 (4), and 6-4. This result makes him the second semifinalist with the lowest ranking in the last 35 years in Masters 1000 tournaments.

This is simply incredible. I didn’t come as a qualifier, I came as an alternate. I wasn’t even sure I was going to play the qualifying.
